TikTok Now is a new authoring tool from TikTok. The app can remind users to take a 10-second video or a still photo with their phone every day, making it easy to share what the user is doing. TikTok Now was originally introduced into TikTok’s main app as a functional module, but now supports promotion as an independent app, allowing users to opt-in to receive push notifications for these social check-ins.

What’ more, TikTok designed TikTok Now with users' privacy and security in mind. Creators decide for themselves who can view or participate in their content. Users can also block other people or certain comments. If someone comes across behavior that they think may violate TikTok’s rules, they can report it. In addition, with the addition of new features, TikTok's positioning is clearer. On TikTok, users can browse user content and system recommended content that they follow but have not returned from the Home menu, and can view the content posted by friends who are related to each other and real-time updates on the Now menu.

The settings of TikTok Now are very simple, similar to the style of BeReal, and the homepage of the application has two sections: Friends and exploration. “Friends” is used to view the Now activities of connected users, and “Explore” is used to view the Now activities of strangers who have given up access. At present, the function of the app is relatively focused, and the short video content in TikTok has not been introduced.

It is worth mentioning that TikTok has done a good job in managing young people’s safety online. If someone under the age of 16 creates an account to use the TikTok Now app, their account will be set to privacy-protected status by default. Users must be at least 18 years old to share their TikTok Now posts on the Discovery Channel, and users between the ages of 13 and 15 can only comment in “Friends” tab to avoid unwanted interactions.
